When the feet and legs are not in healthy alignment, damaging wear and tear to all the joints and muscles above (Knee, hip, pelvis and spine) often happens, as well as such issues as plantar fasciitis and bunions, which often are the problems that drive people to seek orthotics.
Customized Orthotics can provide comfort for everyday wear, sports, and also demanding work environments. They can help prevent the cascade of dysfunctional movement and pain that will happen when ankles and feet are not supported properly.
These insoles are heat molded and carefully fitted to a person’s foot with the entire leg and foot in ideal alignment. They specifically control foot and ankle function in all 3 planes of movement (long arch, metatarsal arch, supination/pronation angle). Unlike off-the-shelf rigid orthotics (even those that are based on detailed evaluations), they allow for the natural spring function of the normal foot during walking and running.
For long-term foot and ankle wellness, it is important to work with your physical therapist to make sure that your exercises are specifically the right ones for your body and that any mechanical chain issues (knee, hip, spine) are addressed – people often “short-change” themselves after being fitted for orthotics but not following through with whole body wellness treatment.
